Science of the Spiritual

Metaphysics and the sciences are topics that scare people off, I know. But important things can be learned from a spiritual perspective. Especially in the more recent years and more recent discoveries, I find some hidden treasures. Reviewing their data, I often do not reach the same conclusions that pure scientists reach, however.

Some of the most significant advances have been both in the macro and the micro. What I mean by this is advances have gone so drastically massive in scale while at the same time so incredibly small. For example, physicists develop equations that attempt to quantify energy, matter, and the entire universe. While others tackle the wonders of the subatomic yet, both of these seemingly different topics overlap continuously.

While exploring equations that quantify the entire universe, they quickly found that it lacked the matter and or energy needed to enable their other observations and equations to work. So, they invented a construct known as dark matter to balance out what they knew or think they know. So, it comes down to one of two things. This mysterious matter either eludes us, or all of their preconceived observations are wrong.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is the subatomic work that is going on. And It has been discovered that not only are there neutrons, protons, and electrons, but now there are even smaller building blocks called quarks and leptons. They have also found that these building blocks of matter that we have all come to think about, in fact, aren’t always there. They will, for lack of a better term, disappear. Where did they go, you might ask? No one knows. A different universe? A different reality? It is truly a mystery.

I realize I am drastically oversimplifying these things, and they are much more complicated. However, as modern humans, we tend to lose our wonder in the world and universe. We forget that we don’t know how things work, and that is where my belief in spirit comes in rather than science.

These new wonders of science open my imagination to what the future might hold for us as humans. Hasn’t it been said by Arthur C Clarke, “Any significantly advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” So we are on the cusp of some breakthroughs that can be groundbreaking not only for science, but I believe that they can also have spiritual implications.

All of this being said, I think all things should be taken with a grain of science and spirit and all awe. It is only through combining these things that we can proceed as a species, for we may be coming upon not only significant advances in technology but some significant choices in morality.

There is an awakening of the spiritual that rides parallel with these ideas. There are no accidents, and the awakening of the spiritual, technology and all generated by both are coming together at the same time and place for a reason. As to precisely what the reason is, I’m not entirely sure. But I do know that I believe that it should be accepted into our lives with hope and love rather than one of skepticism and fear.
